Dust Mask Required Beyond This Point

Written on January 13, 2009 – 5:39 pm | by Mani |

*Cough* *Cough* Waaaaaayyyy, it have real dust in here, boy. Jeez an ages! Oh gosh! Check dus’ an’ rus’! Had to get some WD-40 for the “Write New Post” button. Well Dee made a comment about me being back after I replied to a comment someone left on my blog. I’ll admit that I had been coming around here more often in the past few days, even if most of those times was to remove spam that slipped through the filter. My plan was to begin 2009 blazing hot – back to the glory days. It’s now the 13th so I guess we all know how that worked out. So after Dee’s comment I figured I had to write something if I’m ever going to start blogging again – even if this is going to be a crap post.

So I hope you’ve all been having a good New Year. Hear me nah, “allyuh” like it have anybody who does read this blog anymore. I know Chennette might pop in and say that coincidentally she checked my blog just today for the first time in months. In any case, as I was saying, I hope you all had a good Christmas and everything. The New Year looked promising up to the point where perhaps the most beloved Trinidadian passed away in a car accident. I mean honestly which Trinidadian was more beloved than Jizelle Salandy in recent times? Maybe Richard Thompson, but I think Jizelle had the edge with her come-from-nothing Cinderella story. If you all are anything like me shake your head every time you think about her death.

When I first heard about it I wasn’t even sad – mostly because I didn’t believe it. I was like that is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard. She fought her last fight on Boxing Day, how could she be dead? Of course, and allow me to wax a little philosophical here, I don’t think our mortality takes into account how much we inhabit the public spotlight – a fact I think we forget sometimes. People die accidents everyday and Jizelle is a person. But still, I don’t think it even sunk in till I saw the picture of her lying in her coffin (still looking very beautiful I might add). On top of that, poor Tamar Watson has a long road of recovery ahead of her and I int he midst of all that I had to try to comprehend the stupidity of the Guardian’s headline the next morning which has now become infamous. Obviously someone with horrible timing was trying to be cute. I haven’t bought a Guardian since. Now I think I am numbed by the whole experience. Gone too soon, gone too soon.

What else is new? Well the Commission of inquiry has begun. Hooray for that. I can’t wait to see how this one ends. Complete acquittal, a jail sentence maybe? Who knows? All I hope is that a good forensic accountant to gets his or her chance to venture into the rabbit hole.

What is not new? Murders, road fatalities and all that bad stuff. Nothing need be said on these at this point in time.

I really do hope that I can keep my blog going through this year. I believe the last time I blogged was back in October of last year. And even before that my blogging was sketchy. I just hope I don’t get too bogged down with stuff, because this is always the first casualty of me being busy. Cross your fingers for me…please.

I heard about Jizelle, and I was saddened… I suppose we forget celebrities are human too, susceptible to the same things we are. I don’t know what the Guardian headline was like, but it was probably crass and tasteless!

Welcome back to the world, although I knew you were still alive ;)

Mani, thanks to Google Reader, I wasn’t aimlessly browsing your blog, although I did wonder every time I scrolled past you on my list.

I am shouting through the cobwebs and spiders to say Welcome, Happy New Year and all those goodly things

    @danceondcoco, ah still here, man!

@Jill, thanks, well you of all people knew I was still alive. I can’t find the image anywhere, but the headline said, “Boxing star dies as car slams into killer pillar… Jizelle knocked out”. Kind of cheap.

@Chennette, Thank you much for the greetings, HNY to you also. I enjoyed your Hajj photos very much, by the way.

@AfroChic, lol. I hope you don’t have asthma. Thank you very much!

Welcome back, Mani! Your blogging was missed, but we all understand that when you are busy, TMR has to take a back seat.

Happy New Year, and fingers crossed for some positive news from T&T instead of all the negativity (RIP Mighty Duke today)

    YAY!!!

    Ahem…

Welcome back Mani, glad to hear (see? read? I dunno) your voice again. I have a cobweb broom you could borrow, you know:)

How was your Christmas? And New Year? And how Carnival shaping up?

I’m still pissed about that Guardian headline, talk about insensitive. And you won’t believe how I hear about Jizelle’s death – Fassbook.

Re: Commission of Enquiry – you see how much trouble Prof Uff getting from the lawyers because he wants to meet on Saturdays? You would swear he asked them to sell a kidney!

Well, I see that everyone has a comment about Giselle, but does anyone wonder about the circumstances under which she died? Isn’t that more important..for the other drivers on the road, and for responsible citizens, few as they are, who try to obey the traffic laws?

It was the same for that Thompson man..how could he get into an accident on Marli Street in Woodbrook. Do you know the size of that street? Was he drunk? Sleeping? Speeding? I think that we concentrate and focus on the wrong things..the who as opposed to the why…get out of that myopic line of thinking and start thinking big for once…change should come to Trinidad…

    Mr. Manicou,
There is a piece of software called “Windows Live Writer” that will greatly increase your appetite for blogging. It publishes right to your blog from your desktop (without having to log in) and has been called Microsoft’s single most useful software available. It is free. Google it for reviews etc.

Can’t remember when last I used anything else to blog.

Long time no read by the way.
