Captain, Your Ship is Sinking
Captain Gary Griffith’s boat has sprung a leak. Actually, his letter leaked. Captain Gary Griffith left me speechless a couple days ago. A lot of you might know that COP member Captain Gary Griffith’s name has been in the news a lot recently, but what happened two days ago may shock you.
Just to update you on the story so far. Gary Griffith, in a letter leaked to the press, criticized COP Political Leader Winston Dookeran for his leadership style. Then my boy Gary Griffith instead of choosing not to comment on the letter, takes a sledge hammer to the leak and decides, “Oh yeah, I’ll grant the Express an interview“. What a leak! Said Mr. Griffith:
Winston Dookeran has become a law unto himself.“Our political leader was selected rather than elected and we need to have some electoral process to have the full support of the 148,000. I don’t think we can get an extra vote with Winston Dookeran as the political leader.”
Dookeran, while not responding specifically to Gary Griffith’s comments, said,
“…We are proceeding very well and there are lots of people who are working and working at all levels, from the bottom level to the top level of the COP all over the country.“We are working to keep that alive and I am doing my part to ensure that happens,”
To which Gary Griffith graciously replied,
“For him to say that we are moving forward and everything is working well, that is a figment of his imagination.”
It’s quite a coincidence that the letter leaked just as Gary Griffith is about to team up with Jack Warner to create a anti-crime plan for Chaguanas West. Could this be the same Gary Griffith who not too long ago was touting the greatness of Winston Dookeran?
With that being as bad as it Captain Gary Griffith made it infinitely worse when he called Anil Chris and Sprang on the Powerdive as the topic was being discussed so as to to lambaste Anil Roberts for discussing the topic on air. The man was in full bacchanal mode:
“Yuh loudmouth, hypocrite. I like how yuh doing the same thing yuh criticize me for. You is the reason why we loss the election. Yuh want to hang up on me? Go ahead, yuh duck and run just like yuh leader!”
Gasp! First of all it wasn’t Anil Roberts who was parading before the media. It was Gary Griffith. Now that Gary Griffith’s letter, and Gary Griffith himself is in the public spotlight, the story is legitimate - something which Gary Griffith seems unable to understand.
Griffith’s accusations are even more interesting considering the report that before last Sunday (where he apologised for the leak and his subsequent comments), he hadn’t been to a COP executive meeting since November 5th or thereabouts. Yet even more interesting was what Gary Griffith said during his apology, “The growing pains which were presently being experienced by the party was a natural aspect in the life of a political party. The party would deal with these growing pains in a professional manner“. Interesting.
The COP issued a press release stating that Mr. Griffith does not speak on behalf of the Congress of the People and that all his appearances in the media haven’t been sanctioned by the party. It’s interesting therefore that this is the very same loose cannon who has accused Mr. Dookeran of becoming a party onto himself. Awkward.
I am sure the COP will weather this as well as the (perhaps) the imminent departure of Mr. Griffith.

just a followup… according to Anil on d PowerDrive yesterday… even the Captain’s wifey… who is reported to have resigned as the Party’s PRO, wasn’t in agreement with her hubby…

Well to be precise when asked about his wife’s views he said something along the lines of “well my wife is her own person”. But to me that and what you said sound about the same. But I was shocked to hear him say that…he can’t even drum up support from the wifey? Boy is bacchanal right through yes.

None of what Gary Griffith does or says really makes a difference at this point… his was based solely on the perceived embarrassment to the UNC allegations of his close involvement with the first female MP of Oropouche West. Anyway, the only COP election ‘casualty’ that seems to be still getting any mainstream (non-Jagriti) media coverage is PRAKASH RAMADHAR, the new hope for the Trinidad Renaissance, the (almost) blue-eyed boy of Caparo. Incidentally, the Ramadhar caucus also appears to include Devant Maharaj and Rocky Garcia…

By the way, keep shooting the messenger and forget about the message.
That is why the party just hyjacked the Internal Election to ensure that the political misfits and deadweights remain to brown nose Dookeran, so we wil keep having powerful projects such as ” walk with yuh empty pot march ” and continue to look like fools.
Let us keep going in that direction and the COP is sure to win the next Election.

Look sir, if I were to believe every comment I get on this blog, I would also believe that I get comments from Patric Manning, Basdeo Panday, Jack Warner etc, etc. The fact that you misspelled your own name leads me to believe that you may not be who you say you are.
That having been said, The Gary Griffith who was in the media a few months ago handled the issue of Mr. Dookeran’s leadership in THE worst possible way. I’m not saying Winston Dookeran is Jesus Christ, but there are ways things like this should be dealt with. If the letter leaked, then fine it leaked, but surely there is no reason to parade in front of the media.
So let me get this straight, you’re the messenger? And if you say that the problem lies with Mr. Dookeran, who do you propose take the helm? I am not one of those who would ask rhetorically, “Who we go put?”. I just don’t know of anyone else within the COP camp who has the ability to lead the party and garner support in the way that Mr. Dookeran has.
So if you are Gary Griffith, I think the burden of proof is upon you to show us how Mr. Dookeran has erred, because from what I see, you may be in the minority.

Now we are being professional.
I hear what you are saying,and will not want to bore you with the details, only to say briefly that I have to be a mad man to attack a Leader that I sacrificed my whole political career for because I believed in him, and then go all of a sudden go public because I discovered that he was not who he made himself out to be.
I sent that email in confidence to the whole Executive whereby one Deputy Leader, and several others agreed with me, only for one of them to send out the email because of their desire to destroy Winston for them to reap the rewards.
I only started going public when clowns like Anil Roberts began to attack me day after day. Eventually I was forced to return the cross fire.
EVERYTIME I asked the Nirad Tewaries and others not to say anything, and this will die, they continued to go after me.
Recall the National Council Meeting when I was in the conference and apologised and I said that this matter is closed and we are moving forward.
The very next morning Carolyne Seepersad Bachan [ Deputy Leader by the way], goes on CNC 3 and starts attacking me again.
Instead of using this site to do what I was condemned for and let you know about the real Winston Dookeran, it will be a pleasure to meet you in person and let you know what many are not aware of.
The only point I will bring is to say that Gerry Yet Ming, Gillian, myself and others have been pleading with Winston to stop this political intellectual masturbation with the party only dealing with air conditioned power point presentations, retreats, and rehashing of policies but instead to go out and do real work to show the country that we are alive.
Unfortunately, he has shown the character traits of a weak leader by surrounding himself around weak and clueless Lieutenants who cannot do that type of work to keep the party alive , hence we have nonsense like ” march with yuh empty pots ” etc because many of them are in it for themselves and what they can get, rather than truly serving people. Once this continues, we will lose every vote south of Grand Bazaar eventually and have tens of thousands of middle income supporters in the western peninsula alone, which amounts to not much as that cannot even give the COP a seat in Local Government.
Take me out of the equation, as I am expendable, but notice that those who formed the party and caused the majority to follow have been sidelined .
- Ganga/ Manohar/ Gillian/ Robin Montano/ Gerry/ Sadiq/ , and he has placed political misfits, has beens, wanna be and never will be politicians to run the party in his continued absence. These people will cause the downfall of the party.
So, as they leaked the email and opened the Pandoras Box, the debate was opne, so now let them shoot the messenger. Somebody has to take the fall or else the party will collapse soon enough.
Once Winston remains as Leader, we will continue to lose support
I was hoping for a young and dynamic person to lead who can cut the racial divide in this country, which Winston could not do as he was and will always be seen as a UNC B team leader, as unfortunate as it is.
Probably an Anand, Prakash,or Gillian.
I honestly do not know, but it must be someone who we can all trust.

Mr. Griffith, if you want to deal with the issues then deal with the issues. However, you can’t say you want to deal with the issues and then call me a “clown” and a “loser” and then criticize me for not being professional. I’m sorry but you can’t have it both ways.
But anyway, I read and understand your comment and I would like to continue this conversation with you, but right now I am in the middle of exams and I just don’t have the time to do anything else but study. When they are over, I will e-mail you…..No spell check required.
