Have a Great 2008

Written on January 1, 2008 – 12:15 pm | by Mani |

Hi Guys and Girls. So the blog is still in progress as you can see. Yesterday I got over the biggest hurdle which was to preserve my permalinks from my Blogger (since Blogger and Wordpress process permalinks differently) thereby preserving what little PageRank I have. I’ll write a long tutorial about it later for those of you who are looking to follow suit and leave Blogger. I’m sorry to say though that the first two posts I had written in Wordpress were a casualty of the whole move since I did it wrong the first time I had to delete all the posts I imported previously from Blogger and import them all over again.

So thanks to all of you who left comments. Chennette, no sorry Karel and I are not the same person. What process are you going to start though? Lilandra, I have grown to really dislike Blogger especially the fact that hosting my own blog means that I’m not allowed the fancy conveniences of things like widgets…and I need the widgets, man. In any case, I realized that Wordpress is where all the cool people hang out anyway - yourself and Chennette included. I just wish I knew this earlier and had the courage to make the move. Lilandra, the theme I was using in the first place was really messed up. Something is also a little funky with this one since it squishes all my images. So I have to work on that along with all the other things on this site that need changing

Afro Chic, nah, nobody hijacked me, but I think you should go ahead and make the move too. trust me you will never want to look back.

Jill, thanks gyul, yes ah hoping since my blog gets its sexy back, I’ll get more pics…rather I’m banking on it.

I’m out for now, but a Happy New Year to all of you and your families. If I could wish one thing for T&T this year, I would wish for a safer Trinidad and Tobago. I know that many of you are wishing for the exact same thing. Let’s hope it happens.

lol, there is no evidence to support that. Maybe you could get Lord what’s his name to lead a commission of enquiry. ;)

But thanks, I hope not to disappoint!

ahah, so you say, so you say…we’ll see what Karel comes up with :-)
Glad to see you back out in the public :-) waiting to see the theme in its glory so I can figure out what I want to do with mine!
I needed to move if I wanted to do the things I plan and dream about - I don’t think I will ever be a huge online resource, but I still need flexibility. So far so good. Although since I started off on a free service, I’ll have to suffer in loss of page ranking while I switch all my links.
Good luck! I am off to manually edit all my old posts to redirect traffic for the transition. Sigh.

    Hey Chennette

Happy New Year. Well, I’m coming along slowly but surely. The banging my head against the computer is over as far as installations are concerned. I’m hoping to be back up fully by mid-January. Will keep you posted.

But Mani, like i told you, you’re coming along great!

    Mani,

Happy New Year! The new blog looks great, but I have to admit that I miss the “police boots on meh corn” tagline on top; it’s one of the greatest lyrics of all time!

Hi Mani, Happy New Year. Good luck with the new blog.

Mani after doing some reading it didn’t make sense to switch from Blogger to Wordpress unless you have your own domain name (like you and Karel). So until then…

And what’s this about page rank now? All I trakc are my visitors.

I’m curious… after the switch, your blogging still hasn’t been regular. What’s the point then?

Some of us do look out for your posts, only to find a dud… sigh!

    Mani,
I might be going against the tide here, but I really prefer the old format of your blog. Your site’s branding/identity (colors, font, style, etc) screamed ‘Trinidad bachannal!’, and have become familiar, and change is always difficult for readers. I’m not sure, from a reader’s perspective, what the advantage of the new format is. I personally think it’s drab; not trying to be mean, just honest. I’m looking forward to the final product once you are able to get images, etc up. Best of luck in the new year!

Jumbie, i think mani switched for more control and freedom for himself over his blog, but it didn’t necessarily mean more blogging, which is sad, but he does go to UWI, and school just restarted..!

lol mani, the less you say the less pictures come your way! haha kidding, i swear thats the last time i bring them up… ;)

    Jill,

I work a full time job, 40 hours or more per week, and do private jobs outside this, attend university (2nd year ICT) as well, and I blog daily.

Lack of commitment I’d say. :-))

hmmz good point Jumbie ! but i hope mani gets back on soon whatever the case.. =)

how de hell you do all dat jumbie, i have a lot more time than you, yet i am still behind on all my work- two thumbs up to you!

Sanjiva, I put it back up there just for you, man.

Red Green, you are absolutely right, the old colors and everything was better for my branding. But have no fear, sooner or later and bit by bit I will fix this template. I didn’t want to pay for a unique template so I decided to get this one and work with it. Thanks for your comment

Jumbie, Jill was right. While I do wish to blog more, my switch from Blogger to Wordpress was not a pact or a promise to do so. I did it for my own selfish reasons that really have no impact on anyone else one way or another i.e. for more flexibility, freedom and control just as Jill said. Additionally my lack of blogging isn’t due to a lack of commitment on my part. If you’ve ever had a period where you’d write and write yet felt that everything you wrote was garbage, you’d understand what the last few weeks have been like for me. I won’t write if I feel like I have nothing new to add to the discussion or no insight to share. So my silence over the last weeks was what you can call writer’s block and not a lack of commitment on my part. I know you have no idea how many hours I’ve sat staring at this screen trying to write something so I’ll forgive you, because you don’t know.

    Mani,

    Writer’s block?

Look up ‘writer’s block’ on my blog. Heh, heh, heh.

Jill, I do all that because I am a Grumpy Old Man with an opinion on EVERYTHING> Heh, heh, heh.

Actually, I just found out today I can probably do A level law part time where I work…. another good start…..

Jumbie, A level law? i only got up to standard for in trini, so A level law is umm, a secondary or tertiary thing?

Mani- :D your rebuttals always make me smile! hope the writers block keeps itself at bay for the year, must confess i have stopped reading the express and just come here.. haha i think i will have to get back into the groove with the express though!
