Clang, clang! The bell has rung. November 5th is our election day Prime Minister Patrick Manning announced today. Let the madness begin. More at the top of the hour when I get confirmation.
Update: It’s confirmed. Also, October 22nd is nomination day.
Update 2: The exact statement from the Prime Minister was:
Mr. Speaker I’d just like to state for the benefit of our honourable members and the national community, that I have today advised His Excellency the President to dissolve Parliament with effect from midnight tonight. General Elections will be held in Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, November the 5th and nomination day is Monday, October the 22nd.

Cool, anonymous.
Bandwagonist, I wish I came up with that. I see you forgot Kirk Meighoo and DNA, which doesn’t really matter anyway since they don’t factor in.

Mani,
What’s your opinion on these comments that Hindus should feel offended that election is so close to Diwali? I’m wondering whether Trinidad has more fools than I thought, or a case of cannot see the forest for the trees…

Trinidad deserves so much more….
Sigh.

Bandwagonist, Basdeo, is Kamla’s answer to everything.
Jumbie, boy, I did actually think about that when it was brought up. The truth is that I’m not sure what to think. One truth is, however, that you will never see an election day 4 days before Christmas. But the way I figure it, the quicker we get rid of those guys, the better.

I am sick and fed up of Trinis who took Eric Williams education, went foreign and never have anything good to say about HOME. Worst of all- THEY DO NOT GIVE BACK ANYTHING-SO KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELVES OR put out the positive vibes!!!

Anonymous, I normally don’t reply to comments on posts this old, but for you I will. I am sick of house negroes coming here all the time telling me I should be thankful to the Government, the PNM or Dr. Eric Williams because they “gave” us education. What kind of foolish statement is that? Did the money come out of Dr. Eric Williams’ pocket? He was elected as Prime Minister of this country and one of his jobs as Prime Minister was to manage the revenue from oil in such a way as to improve the lives of his people. One of those methods was by way of education. By no means did Dr. Eric Williams “give” us education. We are entitled to it. I’m sorry that you don’t posses the capacity to understand the relationship between a government and its people, but don’t blame me or anyone here for that.
If it’s your perception that the people here “never have anything good to say” it is because the vast majority of them are deeply patriotic and they want better for T&T. But your statement in itself is an incredible exaggeration.
Should someone put out positive vibes even though pregnant women are sleeping on benches in the hospital, or when we have a 300+ murder rate this year and the PM states that crime is not an issue? Should we put out positive vibes when in 2007 politicians are are offering water as a reason why people should vote for them? Methinks you are sick and fed up of the wrong thing anonymous.
