Put the blame on Me - Akon

Written on June 13, 2007 – 11:46 pm | by Mani |

The lyrics say it all. I don’t know where this song came out from. It’s not on his Konvicted album so it looks like he went back into the studio to cut it. Anyway there’s a new Akon song out, the title of whch may be “Put the Blame on Me”, the last verse of which speaks directly to Danah Alleyne. The final verse (amended) goes:

“I’m sorry that it took so long to see,
They were dead wrong tryin’ to put it on me,
I’m sorry that it took so long to speak,
But I was on tour with Gwen Stefani,
I’m sorry for the hand that she was dealt,
For the embarrassment that she felt,
Just a little young girl tryin’ to have fun,
Her daddy shouldn’t never let her out that young,
I’m sorry for club Zen getting shut down,
I hope they manage better next time around,
How was I to know she was under age,
In a 21 and older club they say,
Why doesn’t anyone wanna take blame,
Verizon backed out disgracing my name,
I’m just a singer tryin’ to entertain,
Cuz I love my fans, I’ll take that blame

(Chorus)
Even though the blame’s on you (x3)
I’ll take that blame from you
And you can put that blame on me (x4)

Now I eh go lie, the song real bad, but still I think Akon is missing the point of the whole thing (which I won’t rehash here). The other thing is, even though the chorus of the song says “…put that blame on me” if you look at it, Akon isn’t really shouldering any of the blame. Instead, he blames the club, and her dad (all deserving of blame mind you) and in the end he says, “I’m just a singer tryin’ to entertain, Cuz I love my fans, I’ll take that blame”. Right. Poor guy. I guess that’s his point though. He’s going to take blame which in his eyes he doesn’t deserve.

Anil Roberts and Sprang from Power 102 said that he should add on another verse for the teenager he threw off the stage a couple weeks ago. What do you think?

Yes I must comment, he’s losing money, want the industry to think that he’s turly sorry, but at the same time is throwing grease at everyone else but himself.

D Trini, what I want him to address is why did Universal Music try so hard to remove his videos from the internet, probably even before they knew Danah was a minor.

Bandwagonist, well I really did like Akon you know, but the incident disillusioned me. I like the song though.

    Cranky, lol.

oh my goodness people. why does everyone have to have such a negative view on everything… come on, we are all human, we make mistakes, sometimes big ones that cost us our reputation or even our fans in Akons case… i’m not saying what he did was ok, but damn why does he have to be put into such a bad light?? how was he to know her age, his not the one that let her into the club, nor is he her parent that allowed her to leave her house like that and go to a over aged club.
he took time into recording and putting togther this song, something that’s not easy and takes alot of time, he deserves credit for it, wether his intensions were to clear his name, or to really take the blame, or to apologise to his fans, or whatever, it doesn’t really matter, he tried, you done’t beat someone down for trying no matter there reason or intensions.
why does every one portray celebrities as these superhuman things…. they aren’t they are normal ordinary people, it’s a job that they do, and they do it for our entertainment, stop making them look like such horrid people.
look at yourselves…. i can garantee you aren’t perfect and have caught on simpler acts.
    forgive and stop blaming….

I think that Akon is a nice person but yes he should be blame for what he did even though he does not know that the girl was a minor. No one should act or dance like this with female but unless if the females like it then its ok with them. I guess that Akon was having fun but in a way it was also Danah’s fault and all of the blame goes out to her parents and Danah. I mean Danah must be influenced from her frendz that her frendz forced her or made her come to the club even though she was underage. And Danah lied to her parents. Maybe Danah’s parents did not give her child Danah that much freedom or liberty that she could go to the clubs or any other places on her parents consent. So she not only lied to her parents but she also misused the freedom and she did things which was over the limit. And I think Akon realizes for the mistake which he did as well otherwise he would not even give shit about what he did wrong and just forgot about it. That shows how much he care for others. But he was kinda wrong in his place as well.

I am Danah’s distant related cousin Darius and I am completely ashamed and embarrassed for what she has done. All of our family haven’t taught her this kind of discpline or taught her to dirty dance or do something sexual. I am really ashamed to call her my distant related cousin. She has put our whole family in shame. All the people out there especially the females. You do not want to act or make a big mistake which Danah has made. You do not want to lie to your parents, misuse your freedom or do anything to heart you family especially your parents. But I will make sure that this mistake will not happen ever again with Danah and I am sorr to apoligize as well.

    Sincerely

    Darius Alleyne
