Warrants for Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty

Written on April 26, 2007 – 12:25 pm | by Mani |

Just when this Danah Alleyne thing has begun to subside a little and people around the world were just beginning to heal and move on, here comes news of yet another lewd act on stage - actor Richard Gere had the audacity to kiss Shilpa Shetty on stage on her cheek. I am disgusted. Gere pulled the stunt at an event promoting Aids Awareness. The Times Online reported this:

“Transgressed all limits of vulgarity”? I used to think “A Kiss is just a Kiss“. Not so, I guess. Mr. Gupta, I have news for you…..and about 48 seconds of video actually. Yuh eh see nuttin yet. But to each his own. Note to Akon, skip the tour of India.

All joke aside, Gere obviously knows nothing about India. No one who knows anything about India or has seen a Bollywood film would ever try that. And poor Shilpa, you could see the expression on her face when Gere started, because she knew how scandalous the whole thing was.

I guess our local angel would have been burnt at the stake or the pyres in this case. Either way I hope the uncle Sat’s out there pointing fingers at our Afrikan women and calling them degrading get a whiff of this “high values” culture.

It’s a warrant based upon a complaint by a local lawyer seeking his 10 seconds of fame. It’s a publicity stunt to get some free airtime, since the same stunt was pulled when Hrithik Roshan and Ashwariya Rai kissed in Dhoom 2.

As far back as 1978, Shashi Kapoor and Zeenat Aman kissed in Satyam Shivam Sundaram. Raja Hindustani has a long liplock with Aamir Khan and Karishma Kapoor.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram was an eye opener in many respects. Zeenat wore saris that were too small (the story indicates she was very poor) and though dark they were transparent, so there are many instances where her entire breasts including nipples are on display.

I just cite these as an example that the Indian populace is not as unacceptable of sex as some would have us believe. It is a hypocritical attitude.

I am so embarrased on behalf of India (no they haven’t asked me to be but I’ve volunteered.)

This is just plain crazy, yes Indian society is conservative, but go into the suburb or Bandra on any given night and you will see girls dressed to the nines falling all over themselves drunk. Indians are not that conservative and they sure are kidding themselves with all this foolishness….Funny about your memo to AKON.

What’s in the water everybody drinking these days. Like its the season for everything weird.

And if I am not mistaken Gere was a follower of Gandi, so you think he will of known a little about the culture.

I guess he was a little to exctied of the beautiful woman at his side.

i agree with jumbie about the hypocrisy

and you know what, fake violence can be seen by some to be just as bad as “sexually explicit” stuff …

Hm, could he really be that clueless that somewhere along the line he didn’t learn about (along with learning about Buddhism) no PDAs?
Doubt it, that display was way too over the top, bound to get noticed.
Maybe he had a crazy Tom Cruise moment, dared to go out on his own without any handlers advising him.
