Prime Minister’s Residence

Construction work on the Prime Minister’s Residence

Some pictures from today’s Newsday that shows construction work being done on the Prime Minister’s new residence in St. Ann’s. I’m surprised that people aren’t more disgusted by this that they seem to be. It’s not just that the old residence was somehow deemed unsuitable, but that local construction workers are not being used to build it. According to the Prime Minister they’re a little on the lazy side. How are people not outraged by that. How insulting.

it does make me wonder though, if there is more in the mortar than the pestle. This is just pure speculation mind you, but is there something secretive going on there that macocious and talkative Trini construction workers shouldn’t be allowed to see? Trinidadian construction workers have built up the vast majority of this country’s buildings haven’t they? So what makes the PM’s residence so special?

You must be the man with the hammer cause you hit that one right on its head. It speaks to what the man in the street is willing to take and from whom. The pnm continues to show no concern for its suppoters and everyone looks the other way. Now tell me how much testicular fortitude do you need to have to be so sure of winning votes you’d do this in an election year?

I agree with you mani. Also, on the note of housing, I am very disturbed by the fact that it is so hard for the average working class person to own a home in this country. Real estate has gone to hell. Just recently I was browsing through the classified ads and the cheapest home I saw for sale was around $750 000.00. The average, working class person may not even qualify for a mortgage and if they do they still have to stretch their pockets to afford it.

Moreover it is also hard for one to build his own home with the continuous increase of the price of construction material.Materials, in some cases have increased by as much as 50%.

Now, I know that the government has the little HDC housing communites that they are putting up and I must admit that the mortgages for these are quite affordable but people have to wait for years before thay are granted one of these homes that is if they get one at all.

Boysie, ah like that yuh know…”The Man with the Hammer”…it have a nice ring to it. Maybe I should use that for my blog description, although it will be the second straight line I’ve stolen from David Rudder. On the PNM note, their arrogance is so astounding it’s hard to ignore. You should have seen Imbert on the TV last night grinning like a fat cat.

Mellissa, tell me this thing. It is soooo hard for people to own their own homes in this country, and Manning is building how many he wants, It’s obscene.

    1. Yes. Trini workers are lazy.

    2. Yes. They are a security liability. Word travels fast and in all the wrong directions in this country. You wouldn’t want too many people knowing where the panic room is in the residence. (I was 78% serious there).

    3. Yes. Housing has gone haywire.
Who lives in all these expensive houses? Who?
    Does anyone know?
How can this local economy sustain such a vast supply of $1.5 million houses?
    How?
That is what I always found to be ridiculous.
