Sophistication Required

Monday, April 2nd, 2007
Patrick Manning

Uncle Patos using reverse psychology on us or what? First the man talk up this executive presidency thing that he had a divine revelation about. Saying how is the way forward, is what we need, how all he want is a ⅔ majority in the next election for we to get it, how everybody doing it, so why can’t we (isn’t that the title of a Cranberries album?).

No, on the heels of what must be divine revelation #2, he saying how we shouldn’t get that because we can’t handle it. We are not yet “sophisticated enough to embrace a move from the present modified Westminster system to classic executive presidency”.

Manning: Well, the executive presidency is the best thing since sliced bread, you see. It’ll make it so much easier to rule and to take decisive actions. To do what I know is right so that no Tom, Dick or Harrilal will get in my way. To run this country as I see fit. To boldly go where no man has gone before.
Us: Nah we feel that is too much power for one man, and in particular you. We really eh feelin’ that.
Manning: Well doh do it nah, daiz ok. I eh go dig no horrors. I doh think allyuh could really understand anyway. Allyuh still a little to unsophisticated -dat mean bushy and backward if you don’t understand my vocabulary.
Us: On second thought, oh please Mr. Manning, give us the executive presidency. Forgive our level of unsophistication that made us snub your revelations. We are sophisticated enough to be executed, execute us Mr. Manning, execute us at once!
Manning: That’s what I’m talking about.

Windies Crisis

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I want someone to help me understand this West Indies team. Help me understand why our bowling is so bad, why it seems that only some of the batsmen decide that they are going to bat that day.Why does it seem that Chris Gayle needs a batting lesson? And why do some teams look like they have it all figured out while the West Indies look like they are at their first day of school? Three games, three big losses. I know the schedule is compact, but geez.

South Africa, Bangladesh and England are still on the menu, do we still have an appetite?
