UNC - the Back in Times party

Written on January 4, 2007 – 1:12 pm | by Mani |

I wish I could take credit for this headline, but I can’t. I took it from a Letter to the Editor in one of the dailies. Regardless, it’s wickedly funny. If I were Dooks, I’d take that and run with it, especially after all the Duck and Run jokes.

So the Bas is back as the “interim” political leader. We’re not surprised. Are you surprised? You might as well be surprised that childbirth is painful or the moon isn’t made out of cheese.

Everyone has a scab to pick

So the UNC claimed that they were leaderless. Sure they had Kamla Persad-Bissessar as opposition leader, but it’s a political leader they had a tabanca for. They were lost in the political forest with no one to tie them up and leave them for dead. They were standing over the precipice with no one to pull them down. They were treading water with no one to drag them under. It was a desperate time and they needed desperate measures - they needed Bas. And then there was Bas - sent to rescue help them.

For a man who could “drop dead at any moment”, it’s a wonder he took the job. Hold on, this is a suicide attempt isn’t it? This is Bas’ final attempt at martyrdom. The things that escape us….

So why didn’t the UNC executive install KPB as interim political leader? Sure she’s vile, but what they don’t know won’t hurt them. Is the UNC deathly afraid of change and allergic to common sense at the same time?

Once again well written and hilariously funny, Mani.
Maybe Bas tryin’ a ting - he realise that everybody from Jay-Z to Michael Jordan, to boxers and footballers does claim they retiring and then re-enter the arena after a carefully calculated period of time after which their popularity seems to increase by leaps and bounds. So based on this theory he is a shoo-in to become the next PM.

Maybe he thinks he can do a John Compton, like in St Lucia and suddenly blow away the incumbent, based on the public’s intolerance for the crime situation…somehow I don’t see it though. That would require everyone else becoming headless chickens like his faithfuls!

Vami, well you can’t say you were surpised. I thought it was just a matter of time.

Hottie, what does that quote mean exactly?

    lol, Kevianne, yippe, sure.

Thanks ‘rah. Well I don’t mind a MJ come back, but a BP? Thanks anyway.

Law, like Wyclef said, “What, what, say what, say what, anything can happen”

    Kevian, Shhh…they don’t know it.

Chennette, oh gosh, yuh think Bas thinking that far ahead? I’m sure he thinks he still has some political life in him.

I thought that it was against the law for someone who was convicted of a crime (whether or not it is being appealed) to hold a political office. After all, wasn’t that why he had to give up his seat and the office that came with it. And to the point if he was too sick to keep his arse in jail, why did he go to Germany for World Cup and why is he holding a political office? Obviously as Mani say he want to be a martyr cuz he sure to did on the platform. (Doesn’t he have heart problems?)

Well Mirissa, I think it’s more of a “public office” thing. I don’t think political leader qualifies. Yuh asking all the right questions though. Panday is doing things that can be even more injurious to his health as serving time.

Yeah he had some kind of heart surgery a few years ago.
