Trinidad Tobago Murder Toll 2000 - 2006

I‘m giving you here the Trinidad and Tobago Murder Rates for 2000 up till 2006. In 2000 there were 120 murders. Even then we were ranting and raving about how bad crime was then. From 2001 till 2005 it’s been a steady increase to where we are now with last year’s murder rate clocking in at 368.
The stats are as follows:
2000 - 120
2001 - 151
2002 - 172
2003 - 269
2004 - 261
2005 - 386
2006 - 368
Today the UNC is flying in former Homeland Security Chief nominee Bernard Kerik for crime talks. I hope that something does come out of it. Meanwhile the Congress of the People says that it will deliver its crime plan in a couple of weeks. (See stories here)
Is 2007 going to be better or worse? Only time will tell.

A friend of mine was killed in December. This is the second time in three years a friend of mine has been murdered leading up to Christmas. The giy’s name was Bert Allette. I plan on writing a column on it but need to prepare myself. I can only hope for the best. But expect the worst.

I’m am sorry for your loss. I also have a friend who was shot and killed a while back.

Manicou, Bernard Kerik is corrupt as sin. I wouldn’t hope for much. Look him up on Wikipedia and read about the loveshack he had near the World Trade Center after 9/11. That’s part of why he’s a former “nominee”, rather than a former secretary. All of which makes it unsurprising that the UNC is flying him in… birds of a feather and all that.

I heard the real figure for 2006 was 582. This is the allocation for dead after wounded etc.
