Five things about Mani
My six month anniversary came and went on December 6th. I knew it was coming but I just didn’t have the time on that day to post anything. So, after 135 posts and 17,000 page loads (nowhere near Saucy’s 65,000 page loads in 4 months), I realize that I’ve told you almost nothing about myself since I started writing here. But that’s mostly because I like my anonymity that comes with this blog. So to make up for that I am going to tell you 5 random things about myself that absolutely no one else knows. Here they are:
- This is not my first blog. I’ve actually been blogging for years.I got bit by the blogging bug in 2004 and haven’t looked back since.
- On rainy days I listen to rainy day music. This is perhaps the corniest thing that I do, bar none. But rainy day music makes a rainy day seem not so dreary. To be precise they are not all “rainy day songs” per se, but a collection of songs that have rain in their titles and/or mention rain. My top
1012 favourite rainy day songs are:Songs about Rain - Gary Allen
Fire and Rain - James Taylor
Why Does It Always Rain on Me? - Travis
Rainy Days - Guster
Rain - Breaking Benjamin
I Wish It Would Rain - The Temptations
Have You Ever Seen the Rain - Credence Clearwater Revival
Rainy Night In Georgia - Ray Charles
Who’ll Stop The Rain - Credence Clearwater Revival
I Love A Rainy night - Eddie Rabbit
Rain Please Go Away - Allison Krauss & Union Station
Rainy Days And Mondays - The CarpentersSongs that did not make it to the playlist include:
Blame it on the Rain - Milli Vanilli
Raining Blood - Slayer
It’s Raining Men - The Weather GirlsI could always use suggestions for other good songs about rain…in case anyone has any.
- I’ve had reoccurring dreams my entire life. I think I’ve had them all from showing up to school completely naked to finding myself in a room filled with snakes. My first was when I was 4 and I’d dream I’d get up to use the bathroom, and on my return I’d walk past the staircase to see a green witch standing at the bottom. I’d take off but she’d take off after me. Of course everything would be in slow-motion, but I’d manage to get back to bed just before she grabbed me. My most frequent reoccurring dream now is of me driving a car, approaching a stoplight with a few cars stopped ahead of me. I’d try to mash the breaks but the car would refuse to stop. I end up rear-ending the car in front of me and I’d wake up.
- My two biggest pet peeves are
(1) People littering.
(2) Parents smoking in their cars with their poor defenseless children strapped to their car seats. As a matter of fact parents smoking in their cars with their children is enough to make me angry but my anger flash boils when it’s babies involved. It’s even worse when they have the windows rolled up. I’ve seen this so many times especially in the U.S. I’m almost afraid to tell people this about me because I think that people are going to think I’m psycho when I tell them just how much it annoys me.
- I daydream way too much which is probably why sometimes I am not at all productive. I can’t help it though. My mind drifts uncontrollably. This is may be good for creativity, but bad for studying (not that I think I am at all creative). It requires superhuman strength for me to sit down for a long while and study. However it’s good for problem solving. In fact I think my best problem solving time is when I’m jogging and my mind is completely blank. I won’t necessarily start out hoping to find a solution to a problem, but inevitably one will pop into my head.
So there you go. Those are my five things. Maybe in another 6 months I’ll post another 5 things, but then again maybe not.

No Blame it on the Rain? Sigh. Well how about Raindrops Keep Falllin’ on My Head? It has a sedative quality to it. Unless used as in Airplane II or Spiderman 2.
I used to have a recurring dream about pirates capturing my family, which would alternate with the Planet of the Apes apes besieging my house. I know this one recurred for quite some time, as I have images stuck in my head of this event, from all 3 places I lived growing up.

You listen to Credence too? Hell, you actually KNOW about Credence?! Boy, I’v had people accuse me of making up that band all kinda thing. My recurring dream is of me losing my teeth. Hear nuh, TALK about PANIC! It starts with me being unsure whether on of my front teeth is shaking or not and then the panic takes over as I realise that yes, it is shaking and so are others. Man, that dreams messes me up everytime. Wake up in cold sweat and everything. But I already knew about your other blog Mani.

P.S. Smoking on the whole does send me wild. And littering, well, doh even start me. I went on a date with a guy once and never went out with him again because he threw a piece of paper on the floor. He didn’t even have the decency to feel a lil shame about it after I take a turn in his ass. You know what does drive me too? People making funny noises with their mouths and throat. Swet Jesus father. Just move with that one yes.
By Mani on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Chennette, no Milli Vanilli for me. I can’t listen to a fake band. Actually I don’t yet have Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head but thanks for the tip. It will bother me. Well I’m glad I’m not the only one with reoccurring dreams. Another reoccurring dream I’ve had is being chased by a bull. Those started even before I was chased by a real one in Wallerfield.
Hottie, but how yuh mean? Credence is one of my favourites. It’s just classic 70s down the line. I even like that fake Credence song by The Hollies called Long Cool Woman in a Black Dres.
But I’ve had the losing teeth reoccurring dream…THAT is a scary one. I haven’t had that one in months though….look how I getting that one tonight.
And that littering…gyul I saw my own sister litter earlier this year and I have never watched her the same since. Littering will make me dislike someone in a second.

By Mani on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Thanks Spice, oh no, I’m not at all jealous….just in complete awe of what she’s been able to do with her blog. You know that’s true….Saucy has been an ambassador for TnT carnival….I’m not sure why the TDC doesn’t hire her. (There’s no longer a TIDCO…it’s now the Tourism Development Company).
TriniGourmet, Carpenters is another favourite of mine….sorry I can’t be convinced to listen to Milli Vanilli. Maybe in a few years I can.

Hottie I have the reoccuring dream about loosing teeth as well, it is very scary.
Congrats Mani, I too also have another blog, but that one is kept private
I too am in awe of how many visitors I have; Carnival has to be some untapped goldmine if there is THAT much interest in it!
On rainy days I break out my Phantom of the Opera C.D. I am a HUGE fan… hope to see it live in London next year.
By ttfootball on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
I doh know if the Internet is that much a part of trini daily life as yet (FAR LESS any government agency) for Saucy to get the recognition she deserve, ah mean them govt website does cyah update in MONTHS sometimes, saucy writing EVERY DAY.
Mani, smoking on the whole does gall me. I watch people different who I didnt know used to smoke till I see them stand up outside smoking. And well doh talk ’bout in cars..NASTINESS!!
O and while these 5 things were interesting, I think finding out you could make bussupshot was in some way more intriguing

ttfotball, I agree. The more I hear about this man is the more I feel I could put he in house yes. I mean, he tall, he intelligent, he could cook, he like to read (yuh know how LONG I eh hear somebody say they does read?), he kind (the ten dollar loan thing), he hate littering and he like 70s music. All I waiting to hear is that he have all he own teeth and could iron and I going and buy the ring
By Hottie Hottie on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Allyuh know what make that losing teeth dream even more scary? What does be underneath. I doh lose my teeth and is a space left behind yuh know. In my dreams the teeth fall out and what remains behind is gum in the SHAPE of the teeth. Hear nuh. When I open my mouth in my dream meh WHOLE mouth does be full of what looks like soft, pink teeth. TALK about cold sweat! Mani, ah hope yuh doh dream about this either.
By Mani on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Thanks Saucy. I agree with you and I’m glad you found such a great niche. I have never listened to that CD or even seen the movie. I guess like enyone else I can recognize a few of the songs though.
TTfootball, lol, well what can I say? I found myself in a foreign country about 500 miles away from the next Trini. It was either learn to make buss up shot or do without. But about the smoking thing, I’m just like you. When I found out that someone smokes when I thought all along that they didn’t or when someone decides to start smoking, it really makes me watch them differently.
Hots, lol, but ah not red and you like red man. Gyul yuh want meh to get nightmare tonight. Like I said, it’s been months since I’ve had that dream.
By Hottie Hottie on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Mani, so yuh think that mean I does only date red man? I like red man yes, dey does ketch meh eye but that is not the most important thing fuh me. In fact, the majority of my boyfriends have been brown/dark and not red. You feel I will let a man like you get away because yuh not red? I’s a mad woman!!!!! I like curry bad yuh know. I could curry anything but I kyah make buss up shut. And you could make it. I find that sounding like a match made in dhalpurrie heaven. Yuh have nice teeth? Yuh want chirren? Not now, but eventually. What else… yuh fingernails and toes clean? Yuh respectful to yuh mamie? Yuh believe in God but not no fanatic? I done know yuh have respect fuh different races and religions so that is a major plus. I always wanted to get married in a sari yuh know. What yuh feel bout dat?

Oh man I”ve been addicted to the Phantom of the OPera original cast recording since high school days ‘92
Great stuff… the movie was very visually pleasing as well… but something was lacking

I have recurring dreams too. My gift of congrats to you is some interpretations of your dreams.
To dream that you are in school, signifies feelings of inadequacy and childhood insecurities that have never been resolved. It may relate to anxieties about performance and abilities. You may also be going through a “spiritual learning” experience. If you are still in school and dream about school, then it will naturally serve as a backdrop to your dream world. Alternatively, a dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life.
To dream that you are naked, denotes the fear of being found out and exposed about your activities and misjudgment.
To dream that you suddenly discover your nudity and are trying to cover up, signifies your vulnerability to a situation.
To see a snake or be bitten by one in your dream, signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. The snake may also be seen as phallic and thus symbolize dangerous and forbidden sexuality. The snake may also refer to a person around you who is callous, ruthless, and can’t be trusted. As a positive symbol, snakes represent transformation, knowledge and wisdom. It is indicative of self-renewal and positive changes.
To see a witch in your dream, represents evil, destructive, and dangerous feminine forces. It may point to your negative ideas of the feminine and your experiences with heartless women. Alternatively, a witch is symbolic of goodness, power and enchantment.
To dream of a car accident, symbolizes your emotional state. You may be harboring deep anxieties and fears. Are you “driving” yourself too hard? This dream may tell you to slow down before you hit disaster. You need to rethink or re-plan your course of actions and set yourself on a better path.
To dream that you are driving a car, denotes your ambition, your drive and your ability to navigate from one stage of your life to another. Consider how smooth or rough the car ride is. Whether you are driving the car or a passenger, is indicative of of your active role or passive role in your life. If you are in the backseat of the car, then it indicates that you are putting yourself down and are allowing others to take over. This may be a result of low self-esteem or low self-confidence. Overall, this dream symbol is an indication of your dependence and degree of control you have on your life.
There ya go Mani, analyze away!
By saucydiva on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
so Karabana what did they say about dreaming of loosing your teeth?
Trinigourmet my dream is to see Phantom of the Opera live.
By Chennette on Dec 11, 2006 | Reply
Oooh, Phantom was my first live show ever. Saw it in Toronto and after the intermission, we got moved up to the sixth row (a friend was an usher and the manager’s seats were empty) and it was phenomenal. That being said, I giggled my way through the recent movie, watching it in Movietowne. I don’t think I wanted to see all that overly dramatic emotion THAT close up. Good thing I was just there with my sister, who, even if I was embarrassing her, understands me well enough.
I have the losing teeth dream too. Ugh. But it did help me stop sucking my thumb when I was 5 or 6, the fear of being toothless. Later on (like now) the losing my teeth dream means a migraine is on the way…
And I concur that TDC isn’t the best welcome mat to T&T. See their recipes. Mani, my whole family was in an uproar about that and emailed separately. I just hope we didn’t all use the same last name
But my last name is generic enough that there are many many of us in Trinidad.

“It’s a rainy day, it’s a rainy day; It’s raining outside and I can’t go outside and play. Why do we need the rain, anywaaaaaaay?
Water to [something] the rivers, waterfalls and streams…”
Yes. I apparently do remember many Sesame Street songs, if not all the lyrics. That’s a good one.
And Flood by Ataklan is a favourite favourite one. Particulalry for anyone who had to get home from town and facing the crossing of the river called South Quay to get to City Gate…

Hottie, lol, ok. Sorry for assuming. Yuh want to get marrid in a sari? yuh have to have two different sari fuh dat yuh know. I hear they does change sari in the ceremony. Well we could marry if we could have a tassa group play for the reception.
Karabana, well I was afraid that someone was going to psychoanalyze me, so I could find out what a messed up human being I was , lol. Geez, how it is I does get out of bed in the morning?
I would really like to know about the losing the teeth dream since it’s something quite a few people seem to have. And here I was thinking I was the only one.
Chennette, lol, well good going recruiting your entire family. We’ll see if they actually read the e-mails they get, and further if they’ll actually do anything about it. Let’s give them till the end of January. it’s been a long time since I’ve had to cross that South Quay river…geez…talk about stretch.
but u serious, thanks for the songs. I completely forgot about that Eurythmics song. I have the GNR song though and one of the Zepplin songs. As Jonathan said, it’s not CCR, but Lynyrd Skynyrd. I’m also a Skynyrd fan by the way.

Well what they say about teeth is if your teeth are rotten, crooked, and/or falling out this means that your lies are hurting someone very badly and that you will soon be found out.To dream that you have rotten or decaying teeth, forewarns that your health and/or business is in jeopardy. You may have uttered some false or foul words and those words are coming back to haunt you.

Mani, thanks for sharing personal details, I found this post very interesting! I too have recurring nightmares, but it is nearing 1 a.m and I have to go to bed soon so we’ll discuss another time. But my suggestion for a “rain” song is one of my husband’s favorites - Riders on the Storm by The Doors. It even starts out with the rain sound effect. Very atmospheric.
I’ll be home in a week!! OMG I cannot wait! Pastelles, ponche a creme , and sorrel here I come!
