Trinidad at a Glance 3

Written on November 29, 2006 – 12:01 pm | by Mani |
In season:
Pommecythere, Grapefruits.

Hot Song:
What I Want – Fireball
(Definitely one of the strangest soca songs I’ve ever heard. I don’t know if Fireball is blending soca with opera or indian music, but it’s still sounds good even though I’m a little worried that a man could sing such high notes.

Weather:
very nice, cool and breezy and sometimes rainy. Nights are cold by Trinidadian standards so it’s time for the blankets to come out and the fans to be turned off.

Hot topic:
Whey we holin’ de mass. It’s basically weeks to go before Carnicak 2kz and we are yet to learn where it will be and even more importantly why is the Savannah completely off limits.
Why does Patos want an office in the Red House? What is wrong with the building named “Office of the Prime Minister”?

In the Air:
Christmas galore. I was beginning to get worried if Trinidad was skipping Christmas this year because it was already late October before I was to see an ad for a Christmas sale or competition. But Christmas is now in full swing. I actually got to see some old videos on NCC Channel 4 including Marcia Miranda’s Bring out the Ham and that song whose name I don’t know that goes “I give him bread and ham together with a Pastel…” Who sings that song anyway?

Controversy:
Charges of UTT impropriety. So, even more corruption.

Sports:
WI playing Pakistan in the last test in Karachi. We’re not doing too good.

The song about the Mistah from Margarita is by Drupatee, I believe.

Why can’t the West Indies win? I keep trying to get back into following cricket (which is hard enough when you’re living in the States), but it’s so depressing that this team, who were the Yankees of cricket when I was growing up (they didn’t lose a test series from when I was 1 year old to when I was 15), are now pretty crap.

Didn’t Patos move the office of the PM to Whitehall from the Twin Towers to begin with? Wasn’t there a big renovation and ting? I hate him.

Finally, I laugh at the idea that your nights are “cold”.

What a long comment. You’d think I didn’t have my own blog to post on.

Nah Ed, that is not drupate yuh know. I have no idea what her name is. perhaps Hottie might know.

Why can’t the Windies win? Man, I have no idea. When last did we win a Test series anyway?

Boy I thought so, but no it looking like he want to work at the Red House. I have no idea why.

lol, yeah the nights cold. Well by Trini standards anyway. When I was in school in the Midwest, I had to stay in the dorm over one Christmas break. The blasted people I think forgot I was there and one night they turned off the heat and hot water. That was the worst. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

her name is Sharlene Boodram… she’s like 19 now but has been out forever.

  5. By Mani on Nov 29, 2006 | Reply

Nope, it’s not Sharlene. Trust me, I know who Sharlene is. I want to have dougla babies with her. Isn’t Sharlene in her 20s though? She’s not that young. In any case her only christmas song to date was the one where she’s talking about her Mamacita cooking paratha for Santa.
(O la, la, la, O, la la la, O, La, la la, Mamacita, I want yuh cook some paratha for Santa…)
