Showtime’s Dexter

There’s a new series on Showtime that I’ve been wanting to see called Dexter which begs the question, aren’t there some people who just deserve to die?
Dexter was adopted by a Miami police officer when he was orphaned at 4 years old. Recognizing that Dexter has homicidal tendencies, and instead of extinguishing them, he teaches Dexter to direct his passion for killing in a “constructive” way — by killing only heinous criminals that the justice system doesn’t deal with. And so Dexter works as a forensics analyst for the Miami-Dade Police Department all the while working part time as a serial killer.
Aren’t there just come people that have slipped through the cracks who shouldn’t be walking around on our streets today? What do you do with them? Do you just allow them to continue to walk the streets or do you get rid of them? We’re not talking here about taking them out before they had a fair trial. But after the trial and after the comedy of errors that sees the case being dismissed or the accused being found not guilty, can’t there be another option?
You can find the Wikipedia entry for Dexter here. Showtime’s Dexter site is here, but unless you live in the United States, you’re not good enough to go on their website, so you better settle for the Wikipedia site.
*I forgot to mention this. Ironically, Dexter is the latin word for “right” a fact not missed by the producers of the show I’m sure.

But what de… “recognising he has homocidal tendencies…?” Ting is, Dextre eh too bad looking. If he ask meh fuh meh number and he seem nice and polite he might get it. Look how easy my ass could get in trouble.
That aside, my problem with this is, who determines who deserves to die?

Alexia I think it start already, yuh know. I really want to see it bad.
Hottie, lol, well is not you he after, unless you are a burden to society. So yuh could date him. However on wikipedia it says he is very uncomfortable around womenfolk. And well yeah, that’s the thing….who has the right to determine who dies. I guess that’s the moral quandry….not for Dexter though.

Apparently, it did start already. SHO has the first two episodes available for viewing on their website:

Bewareofdexter, yuh know yuh have a point. Constable Ramnanan Omowale, (cuz in Trinidad you know this is entirely possible) played by Learie Joseph seeking out the filth from society to eliminate them forever. I like it.
Yeah Alexia gyul, yuh must be working/studying to hard.
WEll Hottie, it might work if he had a committee that voted on potential targets. Yuh doh think so?

notice that’s not his hand?
Creepy, huh?
Can’t wait to watch it, loved Six Ft. Under & his acting.
Tv has been pushing boundaries for awhile (reality shows), & they are going to keep pushing until they go too far… we’ll see if this show has gone too far.

Interesting point Karabana. I too was wondering if the premise of this show was going too far. Plus, how many serial killers are there? If he keeps killing them, won’t he eventually run out?
By Mani on Nov 8, 2006 | Reply
Karabana, yeah it is creepy. I almost caught the show Saturday night, but then National Geographic Channel was showing this thing on crystal meth that I really wanted to watch.
Hottie, although I have been anti-death penalty for a long time now, I like the premise of the show…just for the fantasy aspect of throwing out the trash.

I started watching it because of this blog (thanks Mani) and it’s not bad. He’s currently being observed by another serial killer, so it’s an interesting twist to see him try to do his forensic work and make thorough reports to the law enforcers, while this killer is having fun using Dex’s tendencies andn actions to tease and manipulate and sometimes challenge.

Because of me, lol? And I eh even get to watch it yet. Now you make me want to watch it even more.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!
I was worried for a while cause I thought that maybe I had a little bit of psychotic killer in me=)

during his little soliloquies, he questions himself and he asks himself if he is sure and he makes sure that he gets the confession before he starts choppin away, and he weighs carefully whether or not he should continue, so the show in itself answer all the questions about vigilantes etc, plus he has the equipment to make sure that he’s right. If you think about it, the premise of the show is almost the same as Batman or Spiderman except this time the hero kills the crooks
