LMAO at ethnic fatigue. I might have to adopt that. My in-laws green bean cassrole is made with cream of mushroom soup and a whole bag of monterey jack cheese! It’s too much for me. I personally love the sweet potato pie with the marshmallows. It’s like having dessert with your meal.
Alexia, your aunt’s menu is the bomb. I haven’t had callaloo since I last was in Trini and I can’t wait to go home for some macaroni pie and callaloo. Mmm!

I feel like an imposter. Am I the only trini who don’t like callaloo?
I guess I am not Americanized yet and I’ve been over here for quite some time but they can keep dey nasty yams and marshmallows. The in-laws love it and will be bringing that nastiness to cook in my oven. YUCK!
The husband is cooking the green bean cassarole and the turkey. I guess my part will be the stuffing.
I was really hoping nobody would come over. Too much dirty dishes left over.
Ugh, then we have to do it again for Christmas with ham as an addition and I don’t even eat ham. Too much work for the holidays. Ah jus want to relax!!

By Mani on Nov 24, 2006 | Reply
Alexia, but you have it real nice gyul. Yuh auntie doh have ah outlet in Trinidad, lol?
Afrobella, I love green bean casserole, but that sounds like quite a lot of cheese.
Atasha, what kind of human being are u? you don’t like callaloo? lol. Doh study it. I really can’t understand the whole marshmallos on the yams thing. If there were two things that just didn’t go together it is those. Yeah I don’t eat ham either…pigs are filthy animals. Sorry I had to go a little pulp fiction on you there.
Hottie, I still love my Turkey…dark meat for me.
ttfootball, well me eh know gyul, lol. I can’t wait for christmas so I can get me some juicy turkey. I really not feeling the callaloo on thanksgiving either.

I’m another one who really don’t like the callaloo thing…i doubt i can even spell it right! it really too slimy for me and on top of that, you does see the okra seeds in there too. I kinda like the green bean casserole. However, my parents will not even eat it. Believe it or not, we seasoned a soy chicken and oven-barbequed it. My aunt invited us over. she fried her turkey. my brother said it “eat good.” by the way, you ever notice how macaroni pie does be a part of every trini “special meal?”
By Mani on Nov 24, 2006 | Reply
Vami, I understand the sliminess part. I hate slime, but I can tolerate callaloo. What gets me is how people can eat boiled okra. Nasty.
So soy chicken eh? And yuh barbequed it to booth? lol.
Yeah I notice that about macaroni pie. That come like we salad.
By Vami on Nov 25, 2006 | Reply
I ate the last of my soy chicken today. It was really good and i even had a sauce to go along with the bar- be-que. yuh tink it easy? Hear this nah, they does even cut it up and stew it like chicken too. Some time ago, we curried it with peas. It so good, you will feel you eating chicken in real!
About the okra, I just thinking about boiled okra and i getting sick here! you’re right that IS nasty! talking about boiled and nasty, i must say, the nastiest i ever see was pickled boiled eggs. That might form an atomic bomb!

a belated thanks for the well wishes. i agree, no marshamllows on the sweet potatoes, not on thanksgiving, that’s just wrong.
By Mani on Nov 29, 2006 | Reply
lol, Vami. Well I wish I could try some barbeque soy chicken. My sister has been tryiong to get us to trade in our Christmas turkry for something so, but I’m not sure I’m ready yet. Pickled boiled eggs? nasty.
Bagogyu, well you had a real Trini-American thanksgiving. I does make a mean curry goat yuh know…
Lime, tell me about it. I generally hate all marshmallows, but especially on yams. Who got that idea to begin with?
